Semarang, November 11, 2025 — The English Literature Study Program, Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Diponegoro held a Visiting Professor on Language, Literature, and Culture, conducted online at 12:30 PM WIB. The event featured two speakers from Eastern Visayas State University, PhilippinesProf. Ma. Jenny C. Advincula, PhD and Christine Dawn S. Mombay, PhD—with Dr. Retno Wulandari, M.A. from Universitas Diponegoro serving as the moderator.

This session was designed to broaden academic discussions on contemporary issues in language, literature, and cultural studies. The speakers presented relevant theoretical perspectives and research findings, offering new insights to students and participants.

Prof. Ma. Jenny C. Advincula opened the session by sharing her views on language studies in social and educational contexts. She highlighted how linguistic dynamics reflect societal change and emphasized the importance of linguistic sensitivity in understanding cultural diversity. Her presentation underscored that language serves not only as a means of communication but also as a marker of identity and an agent of social transformation.

The session then continued with Christine Dawn S. Mombay, PhD who explored the connections between literature, culture, and social representation. She discussed how literary works portray human experiences, cultural patterns, and ideological structures within society. Her analysis emphasized that literature provides space for critical reflection on social dynamics and plays a role in shaping cultural awareness across generations.

Participants showed great enthusiasm by asking questions and engaging in in-depth discussions on linguistic issues, education, and the role of literature in shaping cultural understanding. Both speakers provided comprehensive responses, enriching participants’ perspectives and encouraging productive academic dialogue.
