Karanganyar (08/08/2024) – Facing promotional challenges that prevent UMKMs in Munggur Village, a KKN student from Diponegoro University launched a strategic initiative. Many UMKMs in this village have excellent products such as woven bags, tempeh, jamu, and mushrooms, but they have not been widely recognized due to limited access and understanding of technology. To address this issue, students came up with promotional leaflets in Indonesian and English, with the aim of increasing the visibility and competitiveness of local products that previously received less attention.

Nazla Hanifah, an English Literature student from Diponegoro University, who is doing KKN from July 11 to August 20, 2024, led this initiative by creating a promotional leaflet highlighting the village’s local products. The leaflet was designed in two languages to reach a wider market and drew on her academic background in languages to achieve an effective delivery of the promotional message.

The process of making this leaflet began with visiting each UMKM in Munggur Village. The KKN student conducted brief interviews with the UMKM owners to find out the obstacles they face while running their businesses. After obtaining approval from the UMKM owners to include their products in the leaflet, the student photographed the products. Next, the student created leaflet narratives in Indonesian and English, printed the leaflets, and placed them in the Village Hall for visitors to see.

The background of making this leaflet is the lack of promotion of UMKM in Munggur Village, so the market is still limited. Many UMKM owners have difficulty in marketing their products due to limited access and understanding of technology. Mr. Sunarno, a tempeh business owner, revealed, “I myself do not promote tempeh more widely because I am not tech-savvy. With this leaflet, I hope to reach more buyers.”

The promotional leaflets created by the KKN student received a positive response from the UMKM owners, village officials, and the local community. Hopefully, this program will not only help UMKMs in Munggur Village, but can also inspire other villages to conduct similar promotions in an effort to advance local UMKMs.
